Ultrasonic Testing (UT) is a type of Non-Destructive Testing (NDT), where we examine the test piece or job by applying ultrasonic sound waves. These waves help in identifying defects that are located below the surface of the material.
Testing Process
- We have a UT machine that sends and receives ultrasonic sound waves via a probe.
- UT uses multiple probes for different thicknesses and inspection angles, like 45°, 60°, etc.
- During testing, we apply a coupling medium such as liquid, gel, or starch on the surface to facilitate sound wave transmission.
- The probe sends and receives ultrasonic waves to locate the defect and determine its depth.
- Level-II Qualification is required to perform and evaluate UT inspections.
